The Leadership in Prevention Award recognizes an individual or organization that demonstrates outstanding commitment to preventing substance misuse and promoting mental health and wellness within their community. This year, we are proud to honor Future Builders, Inc., a trailblazing nonprofit organization making a lasting impact across Arkansas.
Founded in 1990, Future Builders, Inc. is a community-based organization dedicated to empowering rural communities through education, resource mobilization, and public health initiatives. Their work is rooted in the belief that every person holds the potential to build a stronger, healthier future.
Over the years, Future Builders has led a number of innovative and far-reaching prevention efforts. Since 2018, their tobacco-free media campaigns have reached more than 500,000 people, supported by over 200 partnerships and smoke-free policy initiatives. The organization has also collected more than 1,200 pledges promoting tobacco-free cars and homes—demonstrating their dedication to behavioral change at both the personal and policy level.
Future Builders has expanded their services to meet broader health needs as well. Since 2023 alone, they have conducted over 2,600 HIV tests and 800 Hepatitis C screenings, helping to increase early detection and reduce health disparities. With the support of more than 200 senior volunteers, they’ve also provided 47 client transports and participated in over 250 events in the past year—solidifying their role as a community cornerstone for wellness and prevention.
